  • Sally…This Christmas

Sally  lives in a young person supported housing unit. She has been in care from the age of 6, after her mum suffered a nervous breakdown and couldn’t cope with her and her siblings  She has lived in several placement and foster homes over the years and has attended 5 different schools.  She didn’t do very well at school and has struggled with her mental health.

Now more settled Sally has returned to college to do an access course because she wants to go to university. She has made friends and is popular in the unit. She receives her universal credit but is hanging on by a thread.  After paying rent, utility bills and  bus fare to college she is often short of money.

Sally is very proud and wouldn’t be seen dead smelly and greasy. She  washes her hair, face and body in the same washing up liquid she uses for the dishes and pops to the local chemist  to use the tester make up before going out.The Hygiene Bank supports the Housing Unit with products and this eases the pressure on Sally’s stretched resources.
