The partnership between The Hygiene Bank, Unilever and Boots has delivered the monumental product donation of 1.5 million hygiene products in the past four years, making a significant difference to thousands of people across the UK affected by hygiene poverty.
For the fourth consecutive year, The Hygiene Bank is partnering with Unilever and Boots to support and raise awareness of hygiene poverty across the UK.
With over 4.2 million people living in hygiene poverty (‘Hygiene Poverty in 2024’ report, The Hygiene Bank, 2024), the partnership is now more relevant than ever, aiming to ensure that essential hygiene, personal care, and household cleaning products are accessible to those who have been pulled into hygiene poverty.
The summer months pose additional challenges for families experiencing hygiene poverty, as they face additional costs for childcare and activities as well as the usual costs for buying food and paying the bills, making access to essential hygiene products even more critical. The ‘You Buy We Donate’ campaign provides an opportunity for the public to take action and help The Hygiene Bank in supporting people living in hygiene poverty.
Starting from the 3rd July until the 27th August, customers purchasing hygiene essentials from participating brands at Boots including Dove, Tresemme, Sure, Lynx, Radox, Shea Moisture, Simple, and Vaseline, will trigger a donation from Unilever.
Unilever has committed to donating a minimum of 300,000 products to The Hygiene Bank during this period. This initiative enables Boots customers to actively participate in supporting people in their local communities living in hygiene poverty by simply purchasing their own hygiene products.
“We are incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from Unilever and Boots,” said Ruth Brock, CEO of The Hygiene Bank. “Everyone deserves to feel clean and this partnership allows us to reach even more individuals in need and spread awareness about the importance of hygiene in maintaining dignity and wellbeing which comes with feeling clean. We believe that hygiene poverty is a problem we can solve together.”
Chris Barron, General Manager Unilever Personal Care UKI said “We are really proud to be partnering with The Hygiene Bank and Boots for another year, continuing to support The Hygiene Bank and the critical support they provide to families and communities across the UK. We know that together we can do more and we hope to continue to reach new milestones in donations and support.”
Unilever and Boots are deeply committed to tackling hygiene poverty in the UK. With the partnership having already delivered 1.5 million products over the last four years to those who need them, The Hygiene Bank continues its mission to end hygiene poverty. The partnership is a shining example of corporate responsibility, community engagement and innovative solutions to address a critical societal issue that we must solve, hygiene poverty.
